The number of food bank clients remains high: 720,231 Canadians visited a food bank in March 2007. This is a number virtually equivalent to the population of the province of New Brunswick.
38.7% of the total food bank clients are children.

*This number rises to more than 40,000 people per month when factoring in those individuals who rely on food from shelters, meal programs, drop-in centres, etc., serviced by FEED NOVA SCOTIA.

- 10.2% represent pensioners - third largest recipient group
- 13.3% represent persons with disabilities - second largest recipient group
- 53.9% represent individuals on social assistance - the largest recipient group
- Approximately 2/3 of food bank households are a combination of single people (38.6%) and single parents (27.5%)
